Designing and Building the Frontend of Wiserfunding’s New Platform


A group of sports fans realised the potential in blockchain technology to establish a one-of-a-kind and exciting marketplace for sports memorabilia, and thus SportsIcon was born as a technology firm. The company's goal is to build a community where sports memorabilia collectors can buy, sell, and exchange items, all while getting rewarded for their participation.
Members of the team have extensive backgrounds in business and technology, and share a love of both sports and cutting-edge innovation. Athletes, teams, and creators alike can create profiles on SportsIcon and mint their own NFTs on the Flow blockchain, making it the first user-generated content platform of its kind.
SportsIcon stands apart from the competition because of the innovative way it facilitates communication between fans and their favourite teams and athletes. The site provides sports enthusiasts with a novel opportunity to amass and trade digital artefacts based on their most cherished athletes, teams, and moments. Dapper Wallet makes it simple for sports lovers to play NBA Top Shot, UFC Strike, and NFL All Day. SportsIcon gives fans the opportunity to buy, sell, and trade a wide variety of sports memorabilia.
The likes of Roham Gharegozlou (creator of Dapperlabs, NBA Top Shot, and FLOW) and Andrew Masanto (co-creator of Hedera Hashgraph) are behind SportsIcon because they know how important a merger between Web3 and sports can be.
Notable investors also include ARGO Blockchain creator Mike Edwards and YouTube co-creator Chad Hurley.
SportsIcon has amassed a stellar group of backers, setting the company prepared for future expansion and innovation in the sports memorabilia industry.


• Reached out to ask us to help develop their marketplace functionality.
• They had developed the backend systems on the Flow Blockchain and they needed us to integrate a functional, beautiful market place to realise their product vision.
• We had to implement functionality for both the creators to add their NFTs and the customers to purchase / sell those they had bought.


1. There were no designs of exactly what they wanted, we were left to infer from minimal information
2. The backend API was incomplete and buggy resulting in problematic connections with the frontend
3. Dapper Wallet functionality didn’t allow for the required authentication details to use the API as both a customer and creator.


• Often we find clients have either ideas of what they want to do or examples of similar ideas
• This means we are well versed in creating from minimal information
• With the minimal designs from SportsIcon we took the design language and updated it across wireframes to give an idea of where we were heading
• These were openly viewable on a shared Figma so their team could leave comments or review the direction we were heading.


• Whilst the backend API was poorly documented and prone to bugs, through trial and error and in depth code reviews of the backend API we managed to ascertain what should happen and therefore what was wrong
• As we were only bought on for the frontend implementation and didn’t have direct flow smart contract experience we let their backend team handle those processes. But we could effectively communicate exactly what needed to be changed and confirm easily with our own test criteria whether those items had been actioned correctly
• This saved SportsIcon days of time as the feedback cycle was significantly shortened from our side.
• Our investigations, testing and bug identification has led to a strong backend API which is significantly more reliable and usable than the original product that was handed over.


• The flow connection has two options for authenticating requests. However, the wallet that Dapper had created was only for one version of authentication at a time.
• This was fine for the customer marketplace or the creator but if a creator wanted to access the marketplace, take any action bar create on the platform it wouldn’t work
• After much experimentation we managed to introduce a technique that automatically switched the users authentication when they went to undertake certain actions. It required confirmation from them in the form of a modal but it provided a much simpler process than showing errors and asking them to sign in and out again.
• Shortly after launch Dapper updated their wallet and allow simultaneously authentication parameters. This meant that we could remove the functionality and greatly improve the user experience.


• Working as an in house team allowed flexibility to adapt to changing requirements
• We could get started immediately rather than a long pre development cycle that would have led to further delays
• Being on hand and working closely with their CTO allowed problems to be resolved quickly and effectively.

Building an NFT Platform on the Flow Blockchain


• One Tribe's mission is to become one of the world's largest protectors of forests and biodiversity by providing indigenous tribes and smallholders with funding for stewardship and the protection of their forests.
• They will achieve this by enabling global brands to fund biodiversity protection as part of their ESG campaigns, carbon offset strategy and Net-Zero journey. We direct funds to high grade certified and verified carbon offset and conservation focused projects.
• They have a platform that allows users to integrate their eCommerce stores and protect the environment (rainforest and carbon offset) through donations automatically taken on every purchase.
• We completed an initial assessment on the scale of rebuilding versus refactoring the platform which isolated a number of problems.


• They needed a team to come in and revamp their product, it was outdated and had many many bugs. They needed architectural guidance to update they’re platform.
• Coupled public facing APIs and internal APIs so that development cycles were slow and complicated.
• They had many different aspects of the business using many different tools which makes it difficult for a small team to manage.


• The company was already using NextJS to handle the client interactions but it was 4/5 versions behind the latest at the point we came on.
• We needed to update the app, and utilise NextJs what it was meant for, static page generation, incremental static updates and the backend API to proxy requests securely.
• They had not used any of these features.
• We removed the reliance on the external Google Cloud functions leaving that to handle the webhook requests from their customers and the respective integrations;

    ◦ We moved all the endpoints that mattered for the application into the NextJs app.
    ◦ This significantly improved the ability to debug issues and updating the app was decoupled from updating the Google Cloud functions thus improving development cadence.
    ◦ It also improved the user experience by allowing us to utilise the Firebase SDK on the NextJs API routes and speeding up the fetching and management of data.


• After stabilising the system we moved to improving the onboarding experience.
• Working with their designer we helped optimise the onboarding experience for users.
• This new onboarding experience allowed us to tailor each experience to the product the customer was most interested in, it opened up an entire new segment of the market for the One Tribe team as previously they had been limited to their eCommerce customers solely.
• This new onboarding experience resulted in less people exiting in the sign up process, greater conversion to higher plans and improved registrations across the board.


• We maintain a strong relationship, continuing to develop and improve their platform
• We are their in house tech team that handles the scoping, creation and management of their SaaS product.
• We also handle some of the design work that is most functionally related to the user experience.
